Title:  Optimization of municipal solid waste transportation by integrating GIS analysis, equation-based, and agent-based model

Abstract: Municipal  solid waste (MSW) management issues emerged in many countries due to the increasing steadily over the last decade by population rising amounts of solid waste generated and rising disposal costs. In most of the urban areas, locations of disposal sites are usually  outside of the urban areas due to the scarcity of land. The current waste collection and transportation are already overloaded arising from the lack of facilities and insufficient resources. Integrating Geographic information system (GIS), Mixed integer linear programming (MILP) and Muilt-Agent-based models (ABM) for optimization vehicle routing of municipal solid waste collection will be proposed in this paper. Firstly, the analysis of geographic information system for the real urban data are handled, then optimized plan using MILP is developed in a static context, after that  it is integrated into a dynamic context using multi-agent based model and simulation. The efficiency of the proposed model is presented in a case study in Hagiang City, Vietnam. Optimized results of the propose has been found that the cost of the MSW collection is reduced by 20.3%.
